My outfit that I wore on Friday for HorrorHound cinci 2011. Why yes, I am that terribly obnoxious person who plows around with a costume the size of a small town. And it's worth every second!
Because for some reason I get it into my head that I always have to do something to top myself. Literally in this case (ba dum bum ching..)
The overall thing was designed and conceptualized by me; Martin (the demon puppet) and the hat, shoe clips, purse, and capelet made by me; the dress was made by my friend Larry.
No, it's not heavy. A little awkward, but I'm adjusting things around to help with that.
Various materials, too many to list, really. This was based around my closet love for shojo manga and gothic lolita fashion. I love that Japanese writers, artists, and designers are just willing to go places a lot of people aren't, and market it to a vast age range. So in that spirit I have it in my head that Amelia's family is renowned for their demon hunting, and somehow she's...different. She's developed a friendship with Martin (what, you expect every demon to be named Beelzebub or Azrael?) and he looks after her. I shudder to think and laugh at where that storyline could go.
This is also kind of in the spirit of the sort of thing I grew up with (for those who remember The Real Ghostbusters, etc) and I feel it's very 80s nostalgia in some ways. It was a blast to wear around, though I still need to make a few more tweaks before it's officially finished.
