Materials - various fabrics, purchased rag doll base, yarn, some wire.

There is no good explanation for this.

I was talking to a friend late one night, trying to figure out what to get her for her birthday. We're both fans of the movie 'The Lost Boys.' David is her favorite character and she'd just gotten the David action figure in the mail. For some reason the idea of a cute little plush of him sounded absolutely hilarious at three am. The difference between me and most people is I rise to the challenge, heh.

I remember assuming that since David had the simplest outfit of the vampires, it would be pretty easy. This actually took a huge amount of time because I was bound and determined to get as close to the film look as I could, and once you start looking at his clothes there's more to them than you first think. I found out really fast that any and all promo shots, screen caps, etc, are really, really dark. Most of the time at least half of the actors' bodies are obscured in shadow or are stuck behind someone else (Artistically it's great, for practical purposes it made me want to smack my head against a wall).

I also found out really fast that there were different versions of all the outfits, and trying to figure out what things were was another challenge. And then there was the aspect of making it all really small and functional and patterning it out. And putting his hair in. And making sure the face was at least somewhat recognizable, and deciding whether to go vamp face or regular face (I went in the middle and did cute Chibi face with little fangs, hense the Chibi D moniker.) Height-wise he clocks in at about 18" if I remember right.

This pretty much taught me the lesson to never ask people what they want me to make them for their birthday ever again. But he turned out well and was well worth it (Though I'm glad he's not on my shelf. In person he's a little creepy, so I guess I hit close to the mark!)

It's been suggested that I try to do a set of the four vamps or other characters from the movie..............we'll see. Some would definitely be harder than others, and while I love the idea of the finished product, I would have to be highly motivated to do it. And really, what on earth would I /do/ with them? But still, you never know!
