My first ebook release Mooner is available today!

Blurb:

Like many young men at the end of the 1800s Bill has signed on to work in a logging camp to earn a fast paycheck to start his life. Unfortunately his role model is Big John, the camp's golden boy known for blowing his pay as fast as he makes it. On a cold Saturday night they enter Red's Saloon to forget the work that takes the sweat and the lives of so many. Red may have plans for their whiskey money, but something else lurks in the shadows, something that badly wants a drink that has nothing to do with alcohol. Can Bill make it back out the shabby door or does someone have their own plans for his future?

Something new!

Hi everyone!

Well, along with all my writing and creating I've accepted another adventure...I'm now writing a twice-monthly column for Fandom Fests's blog Fandom Scene! In it I'll be exploring women and genre fiction and movies - how female characters are perceived, what their place is, etc. It's a topic I'm passionate about so I'm very excited to have this opportunity! You can catch that at www.fandomfest.com/blogs/selah-janel and be sure to check out all of the other amazing writers and their blogs, too!

I know, I know, I've been nonexistant here. But I've been doing so much and having a blast doing it!

The show I did with MadCap Puppets went very well. Once my initial nerves pass I love being plunged into a performance situation and the long run meant that we really had time to learn how everyone worked and play with different stuff. Good times!

I'm also working with a friend to get my costume and design stuff online, so hopefully that will be coming soon, too.

And the writing! I've been proofing edits, looking at covers, starting to put myself out there and promote, and of course writing and submitting more stuff. It's terrifying but exciting in it's own way. I do like learning new stuff and I'm trying to soak everything up. I've got a lot coming up in that respect so be sure to check out www.selahjanel.wordpress.com for my blog and info on all my releases.

And I'm still trying to learn to take time for myself, which has led to a lot of walks, a lot of photo-taking, and I've still got some crafts to finish up so I'll be putting more up here soon!

So this weekend I'm going to Horrorhound cinci with some friends. Should be a fun time, and I'll be wearing a couple of different outfits. The killer prom queen might make an appearance, but mainly I'm interested in road-testing my Con Outfit of Doom, otherwise known as Project Martin. (yeah I know. this will make more sense once I post pics, trust me.) It is either going to be insanely fun or a complete and utter trainwreck, which could also be fun. So either way I'm covered!

I'm incredibly stoked - within the past few months I've gotten acceptances on a couple stories - I'll have on in the WEP anthology 'Bedtime Stories for Girls' next year, along with stories in The MacGuffin and The Realm Beyond.

Aaaaaaand, a horror story of mine will be released as an ebook with No Boundaries Press! I'm so excited, you have no idea. I'm still getting used to the idea that this is happening, weirdly enough.

Little by little, good stuff is rolling on in! I also start rehearsals soon for a holiday show I'm doing, so a lot of fun stuff going on!

Rock on and I'll be back soon!

It's been a busy month and a half...work and other projects have taken precedence, but it's fun to come back here and play!

Sewing/Crafting wise I finished up a comission for the local zoo and got that handed off and have sold a few knit hats as the weather gets colder. Been working on my portfolio (I've been saying this for like six months, so I've really got to force myself through this last push to get things updated), and doing a few odds and ends projects. And I'm working on an outfit for an upcoming con I'm going to in November...partially this is an epilogue to last year's artistic/life/existential crisis, partially I apparently feel the need to outdo myself every year. And by outdo myself I mean come up with the most horrifically complicated project ever and then accessorize it within an inch of its life. I blame my relatives for this...they enabled me with too many playsets and ten million doll accessories as a child - This was bound to happen, I tell you! Thankfully I'm getting some help on this outfit, and when it is done it should be epic beyond imagination. Seriously, if I could come up with a code name for this outfit, I would, because it's going to be that intense. Can't wait!

Writing-wise, I'm also pumped - I've been writing a lot of short horror stories lately (that need to be edited. Sigh. I need to clone myself or make robot minions...), and I've got a few fantasy novella ideas that are looming on the horizon.  I've also gotten word that I'll have stories in a 2012 anthology of bedtime stories as well as upcoming issues of The MacGuffin and The Realm Beyond!

And it's nearly Halloweeeeeeeeen! You'd think I'd be over the holiday since I've had my brain there for work since oh, April, but I'm finding myself getting excited again. The leaves are changing outside and we've finally gotten a break from the sketchy weather (90 degrees one week, 30 the next, what the hey??). It's pleasantly crisp and the sky is that luscious Midwest October blue. And to make it better I have a stack of ghost story books to plow through in good time this week (when I'm not reading Laura Ingalls Wilder. I know, I don't try to understand myself at this point either. I just go with it.)

So good things are all around! So for the moment I'm working on editing pictures and chilling out here on the couch with my cat watching really stupid afternoon cable television.
